Training

We offer bespoke fully accredited AQA (Unit Award Scheme) training at Entry Level and Level One in restorative practices to HMP establishments, community groups, work place, public and private organisations.

In addition, we offer restorative practices training at two different levels: Getting Started and Higher Skills – see below. Training is delivered in standard packages while customised packages can also be adapted with content and scheduling to meet the needs of particular groups and organisations.

The training uses a combination of approaches consistent with internationally recognised adult learning styles, including hand-outs, lecture presentations, small group discussions, practice development through role play, skills demonstration and practice reflection, and critical evaluation.

Certificates of attendance are provided.

Entry Level Training

Getting Started with RP (7 hours)

This training provides an overview of restorative practices, introduces the restorative practices toolkit, explores restorative values and principles, examines emotional ranges, focuses in particular on dealing with anger and shame, and develops restorative language and concepts of fairness.

It then goes on to look at optimum ways of relating to each other, setting high expectations of each other and offering high levels of support. It concludes with an introduction to restorative questions to address harm. At the end of training, participants should feel equipped and inspired to use restorative language and conversations in their working and everyday lives.

The 7-hour Entry Level Training can normally be delivered over one full day.

Level One Training

Higher Skills (14 hours)

This training builds on The Entry Level learning to equip participants with the skills to facilitate restorative circles, meetings and conferences and to support organisations to implement a restorative approach. It identifies the essential attributes of a restorative practices facilitator, examines in detail restorative values and principles, reviews emotional intelligence, practices use of restorative questions and then introduces and explains different types of circles (including various relationship building and problem-solving circles), restorative meetings and conferences (including clear wrongdoer and no clear wrongdoer scenarios).

A major part of the training is on learning and practicing the facilitation skills necessary to facilitate all three types of restorative approaches. The training concludes with a focus on implementing restorative practices in organisations. At the end of training, participants should feel equipped and able to begin using their facilitation skills.

The 14-hour Level One Training is normally delivered over two full days.
